There are a few accounts of piracy to equal the book published in Holland by A. Exquemelin in 1678. His eye-witness record of the feats of the English, French, and Dutch sea-rovers who ravaged shipping and terrorized Caribbean settlements in the seventeenth century makes a vivid story of courage, endurance, and inhuman cruelty.
